So...a couple days ago I realized that I haven't drawn any people since the mandatory Figure Studies classes I took in college. Mostly because I'm sub-par, and thus get easily frustrated with my work. This train of thought brought me to the conclusion that I really ought to start drawing again to, oh y'know, get better or something. :-P
The drawing professor I had in college was not my favorite (irrelevant, but good to know, I think). She said that to get better at drawing you have to draw as many different faces as you can. That's all well and good if you're trying to learn how to draw variations in eyes, lips, etc. but what about those of us who can't even get the first face right? I want to be able to draw someone who looks like someone. Maybe that's not the best way to explain it. I want to be able to draw a picture that is immediately identifiable as the person on whom it was based. To do that, I'm going to have to teach myself how to notice subtle details, and apply the techniques I know in a manner that achieves realism.
From this conclusion, I formed a game plan:
-Draw 1 picture every day (Gotta practice to improve, right?)
-Draw the same person every day (I'm not very good at comparing 2 dissimilar things to find improvement, so I figure if I keep trying to draw the same person over and over it'll be easier to see if I'm getting better.)
-Even though it's the same person, the pictures can't be exactly the same (I get bored easily.)
-Once drawn, post to dA (See if I'll get any pointers...or maybe even some encouragement?)
This is, perhaps, one of the silliest art goals I've ever undertaken. I know this. Don't judge.
